Welcome to Jackie's Corner

JackieMarch 3rd, 2010! Even though spring is not officially here yet, spring has sprung here in St. Regis. The temps have been in the 50's during the day with lots of sunshine. Flowers are poking through the ground. Geese and ducks are pairing up. The song birds have even returned for the year. And most importantly, there have been bugs hatching in the afternoons. With our current extended forecast of mild weather, spring fishing should be awesome this year. We are looking at a very mild runoff, which could mean tough fishing in August, but we haven't had a great spring fishery in a long time so we are excited. And dare I say the s word. Ok, I will. Skwalas!!!!!! We are thinking that this will be the spring of the Skwala. We have been enjoying the nice weather. We have started on the yard work, which usually doesn't happen until the end of March. I am even thinking about the garden already. The kids and I were sick last week, but are better now. We had some kind of stomach bug. Brooks was lucky not to get it. School is going good for the kids. Andrew is on the count down for summer vacation to start. Brooks and I are staying busy with the usual. Brooks is working down at the shop during the day and doing census work in the evening, plus yard work when he can. I am working on the office part of our business at home, doing house work, yard work, volunteering at the school, going on field trips with the kids, school board, and resort board. Before I close for today I have a story to share. I hope everyone gets a good laugh for the day. So here it is. A couple of mornings ago I asked Brooks to feed the pups their breakfast. He brought the food bowls and the big tin of dog food over to the counter. He opened the food tin, filled up the bowls, and then went to put the lid back on the tin. When he turned to put the lid on, he knocked the whole tin of dog food on the floor. Dog food went everywhere. I turned to see what had happened and there was the tin of food on the floor with dog kibble strewn everywhere. Brooks was just standing there looking at the mess. He then looks at me says "Now what do I do". In the meantime, Odie knew what to do. Odie wasted no time. It was a dream come true. There was dog food all over the floor and no one was doing anything to clean it up, so he went to work eating as much kibble as he could. Cherry just watched the whole scene from a distance. After seeing Odie working his magic as a vaccum cleaner, I told Brooks we needed to get the food cleaned up and back in the tin. Brooks was in a daze for a few minutes and couldn't move. I hurried to start scooping up the food as Odie continued to suck it up like a Hoover. Brooks finally pulled himself together and got the broom and started sweeping up the food. When the broom came out, Odie stopped eating and took a breath. Cherry was still watching the whole ordeal and waiting patiently for her breakfast to be put in her food dish and served to her at a safe distance. There's never a dull moment around our house. Have a great day!
